The not self-titled “Bad boy of Dutch Jazz” (Trouw), Danish Guitarist Teis Semey (1993) has made a name for himself across Europe in recent years. Known largely for the Teis Semey Quintet and Raw Fish, Semey showcases a modern way of tackling the electric guitar: high amplitude, high precision, high energy, high sensitivity.
With original songs that scream of collectivism, free jazz, and a liberal attitude towards blending influences from singer-songwriter music and electronic music, Semey has coined a broad but recognizable melodic, riff based sound in both playing and composing.
This broad palette of sound is on display through his latest few albums: punk-avant garde Teis Semey Quintet "En Masse", sacred choral Midnight Mess "Midnight Mess vol. 1" or explosive electro/acoustic Raw Fish "Crudo". The red thread is Semey’s storm-in-with-guns-blazing attitude to music. Whether a gentle whisper or a scream of a thousand suns, it is direct and clear.
A “charmingly nonchalant” voice, that secures an immersive and wild listening experience.
The “rising star” (NRC) has eight albums to his name. His latest albums are “En Masse!”, from September 2024, and "Dark Yellow" from 2026.
Teis Semey is a prolific artist possessing both outlandish technical skills and deep musical sensitivity.
“Semey’s playing grabs you by the shoulders, and screams a story into your face. But a story with depth and nuance" - Jazzism.
